In a step to provide desired placement to students seeking job as per their aptitude and interest, the University Employment Information and Guidance Bureau (UEIGB) of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will be organising a job fair for students on its premises on October 8. The fair is open to all the students irrespective of their colleges. Apart from this, the university is also launching a multi-dimensional career development programme in collaboration with Career Guru-Counselling, Training and Research Centre for the students.

Giving this information to reporters on Friday, the incharge, UEIGB, Prof VK Singh said the one-day fair will be the first phase of the series of programmes which are to be held in the coming days to prepare students for recruitment in different prestigious companies. Over 200 students are expected to get registered themselves at the fair. Students are required to bring their updated resume, passport size photographs and copies of all the certificates and marksheets.

According to Ravindra Sahai of Career Guru-Counselling, Training and Research Centre, after the registration students will be selected according to their profile and skills. The selected students will then undergo telephonic interviews by different companies. After the telephonic interviews the students will have to go for personal interviews. Meanwhile, the students, failed to get selected, will be given training under employment skill development programme and will also under go various tests for evaluation of their employable skills. This entire programme will continue for six months during which all efforts will be taken to provide them a job suiting their profile and aptitude.

According to Prof Singh, companies from agriculture, banking, finance, medical, information technology, retail and other sectors will be arriving for the job fair. Students of all streams can participate in the fair. He further informed that these combined job-oriented programmes will also be held throughout the year in the next academic session as well. Besides, the students can also take help of career counselling and aptitude assessment tests to take a well judged decision about their career. The students will also be informed about the pattern and nature of the job profile before they apply for it.

It is to be mentioned here that UEIGB near Ruiya Hostel has already come up with a psychological counselling cell, where special counselling and aptitude tests are conducted on regular intervals. These tests are conducted for students to determine their natural instinct, attitude, personality traits, behaviour, reaction and response to particular situation.(TOI)
